Valencia’s move for Arnau Martínez has been complicated by Fulham’s late intervention, reviving fears of another Thomas Meunier-style U-turn after he chose Sunderland at the last moment.

According to AS, Fulham could scupper the deal by paying the full release clause, set at eight million euros. Before that interest, Valencia had accelerated talks and reached a provisional agreement with Girona at six million euros plus add-ons, and around 15% of a future sale.

After several days of negotiations, Valencia had also finalised terms with the player and believed Girona had given the green light.

The club still aim to announce Arnau quickly and have him available to Corberán for Saturday’s opener against Celta, despite Fulham’s move.

Corberán considers right-back and goalkeeper priority areas. The option of a loan for goalkeeper Kayne Oevelen, recently signed by Ipswich Town, has been reactivated, and he could yet arrive on loan at Mestalla.
