Fulham are moving to head off Benfica by pushing to keep Marco Silva in London, with the coach hours from his final match of the season.
Record reports that the Premier League club are delighted with his work across the last five seasons and plan to offer a renewal that would keep him at Craven Cottage for a further four years.
Silva has indicated his decision will hinge on budget and investment for next season. He believes the squad needs restructuring and he remains open to new challenges.
The report also said he has another proposal from an English club, while approaches from outside England further complicate his choice.
Benfica are keen, but the report added Silva is expected to decide on that option only after Rui Costa has put the club’s affairs in order. That process has been complicated by the possible Real Madrid presidential bid of Enrique Riquelme, a scenario that could block José Mourinho’s return to the club.
