Harrison Reed’s astonishing 97th-minute strike denied Liverpool a victory moments after Cody Gakpo thought he won the game in stoppage time as Fulham earned a 2-2 draw in the Premier League.
Gakpo sparked wild scenes in the away end as he bundled in Jeremie Frimpong’s cross in the 94th minute. But Reed, who had just come off the bench, then crashed an unstoppable, swerving shot in the top corner.
The late drama came after Florian Wirtz cancelled out Harry Wilson’s first-half finish, with both goals awarded by VAR after offside checks. Wirtz’s second Liverpool goal required a lengthy VAR check before it was awarded.
Liverpool remain unbeaten in eight games but three points would have been priceless ahead of Thursday’s trip to leaders Arsenal.

It was a game of fine margins… and rather wide margins. Not least the space allowed to Harrison Reed to score one of the goals of the season. That 97th-minute strike denied Liverpool what would have been a rare come-from-behind win. Fulham could reasonably claim this 2-2 draw was the least they deserved, though, as the margin between the actual teams wasn’t that wide.
This is where there are greater questions for Arne Slot.
Marco Silva’s team were often superior, and Liverpool only got back into the game through the tightest offside call possible. Literal millimetres, given the definition.
Here’s Miguel Delaney’s take from Craven Cottage and a concerning trend for the Reds:

Fulham 2-2 Liverpool: After taking the lead in stoppage time through Cody Gakpo, the Reds ignored a recurring problem, gifting Harrison Reed the space to rifle a shot into the top corner and ensure the points were shared

A disappointed Arne Slot, speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Fulham.
“Every time it's just not enough. We relied on the whole season on good and bad luck and that is something we have to improve. We have to improve so a shot in the last minute does not immediately lead to us losing points. That is what we are trying to do but we have not done that yet.
“I liked our second half more than our first half. We controlled the game and a few times were close. That's what we brought in the second half. Two disallowed goals, hitting the bar, a goal, that is ideally what you want to see when you have so many attacking players out.
“Once in a while the boys should get a reward but we do not get it and once again the only one to blame is ourselves.”
Florian Wirtz, speaking to Sky Sports after Harrison Reed’s stunning goal to deny Liverpool victory.
"The strike, there is nothing to say. It was unbelievable. You cannot save that ball. Normally, it doesn't go in like this.
“The actions before could have been better, I'm not sure. It was from a throw-in, so we have to be better.
"Again, we are in a difficult situation because we drew two times. It's not what we want, we want more. We have to get better but it's still a process.”
