Full-back and striker break into Corinthians rankings for the 2026 season

Corinthians faced Portuguesa on the night of last Sunday (22), in a match valid for the quarterfinals of the 2026 Paulista Championship and advanced to the semifinals by winning 8 x 7 on penalties, after a 1 x 1 draw in regular time. In the next phase, the Corinthians team will face Novorizontino away from home next Saturday (28).

The match stirred Corinthians' rankings this season. This is because the forward Vitinho, who scored his first goal wearing the Corinthians jersey, entered the team's list of scorers in 2026 with one goal, alongside Rodrigo Garro, Matheus Bidu, Gui Negão, Kayke, Dieguinho Gustavo Henrique, André Ramalho. The top scorer for the Alvinegro this year is Yuri Alberto, with three goals scored, who is currently recovering from a grade 2 muscle injury.

Corinthians' goal in the match came at 47 minutes of the second half when right-back Matheuzinho was activated in the midfield and launched forward Vitinho on the left wing. He controlled it with his right thigh, adjusted, and shot firmly into the top corner of Bruno Bertinato's goal. The number 2, in turn, made his first assist of the season and entered the list of assist providers alongside Yuri Alberto, Matheus Bidu, Memphis Depay, and Dieguinho, Gustavo Henrique, Kaio César, Vitinho, Ryan, and Pedro Raul.

Matheuzinho was signed by Corinthians at the beginning of 2024 and, in the middle of that season, established himself as the absolute starter in the position, placing Fagner on the bench at the time. He participated in the team's rise in the Brasileirão (from the relegation zone to the 2025 Copa Libertadores Pre-qualification), as well as the victories in the Paulista Championship (2025), Copa do Brasil (2025), and Supercopa do Brasil (2026). In 122 games with the Corinthians jersey, he has scored five goals and made nine assists.

Vitinho, on the other hand, arrived at Parque São Jorge in August 2025 after a stint in Arab football and experiences in Brazilian and Russian football. In total, he has played 29 games for Corinthians, with one goal and four assists, and was part of the Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026) victories, against Vasco da Gama and Flamengo, respectively.

Before taking the field for the Paulista Championship semifinals, Corinthians will play this Wednesday (25), at 8 pm (Brasília time), for the fourth round of the Brasileirão. The Corinthians team will visit Cruzeiro at Mineirão. Currently, Dorival Júnior's team occupies the fifth position with six points in three games – four goals scored and two conceded.
