Liverpool have a lot of players among their ranks.

Whether they're part of the Reds' first-team squad or their academy, everyone has a role.

However, last season, a massive injury crisis plagued the Reds which meant that Arne Slot had to get creative.

But, since he clearly had something against every youngster aside from Rio Ngumoha it felt like things were stagnating at Anfield.

So, the hiring of Andoni Iraola was certainly a breath of fresh air.

The Spaniard has already put a lot more trust into Liverpool's youngsters than Slot did with players such as Lewis Koumas, Trey Nyoni and Isaac Mabaya all likely to play a regular role this term.

Luke Chambers could be making a move to Celtic in January

Liverpool's defence was one of their main priorities to upgrade in the summer.

Ronald Araujo and Jeremy Jacquet ended up being the two players welcomed to Iraola's squad.

However, since they massively lacked depth in that area last term, it was clear that the Reds needed more options to choose from.

So, that's likely one of the main reasons why defenders such as Mabaya and Luke Chambers have been asked to stick around.

However, as per a fresh update from Lewis Bower, that could all be about to change with Chambers now being linked with a Champions League-winning team.

"I wonder, eh. Celtic really like Luke Chambers," he shared via X.

Now, this news might not seem all that exciting since Chambers is Liverpool's fifth-choice centre-back but, the fact that Liverpool are looking for a new home for the defender is good news.

During pre-season, Ifeanyi Ndukwe massively impressed everyone with his skillset but, because he wasn't able to get a work permit straight away, he has to spend some time on loan to another club which is where Levante come in.

If the Austrian plays a few games for the La Liga outfit, he'll be able to qualify for a work permit which means that Liverpool could end up recalling him and using him as part of their plans.

So, the fact that the Reds are looking for a way out of Liverpool for Chambers makes it clear that there definitely will be space at centre-back for Ndukwe to return.

During pre-season, fans were upset that Ndukwe couldn't be a part of Liverpool's plans for the first half of the 2026-27 season.

With Ibrahima Konate gone, there was a massive void for Liverpool to fill and, even though the Austrian barely had any senior experience, it looked like he'd been a regular starter for years.

The way he controlled himself on the pitch and the tackles he'd make were close to perfect so, when fans saw that he was joining Levante, they were excited at the prospect of him getting plenty of playing time under his belt.

However, unfortunately for Liverpool, Levante are yet to play the youngster which means that he's no closer to being granted his work permit.

If Ndukwe doesn't get enough points before the January transfer window and Chambers actually exits and joins Celtic, a massive void could form in Liverpool's defence

Of course, some more signings are expected to be made by Liverpool in winter but, if they can replace Chambers with Ndukwe rather than trying to sign someone, it would save them a lot of hassle.

Here's hoping that this actually happens and Iraola's makes the changes he needs to get the Reds back to their best.
