Despite calming the storm inside the Real Madrid dressing room since his arrival, Alvaro Arbeloa has seemingly lost the trust of some key Real Madrid players in recent times.

The team’s poor run of form, lack of identity and struggles across all competitions, after all, have not painted a pretty picture of the team, and there is growing uncertainty over his future as the first-team manager.

There is no official information on the duration of the contract Arbeloa has signed as the first-team coach, but signs indicate that it does go beyond the end of this season. A decision, however, will be taken in the summer, considering multiple factors.

The current scenario

As confirmed in a recent report by The Athletic, Arbeloa’s job at Real Madrid is safe for the moment, and there is no immediate threat of him being sacked. In all probability, he will see the season out in the same role.

The rest, however, is completely dependent on the team’s results in the remaining competitions – La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Failing to win both competitions will make Arbeloa’s continuity unfeasible and see him replaced in June. The very fact that Los Blancos continue to be linked to new managerial profiles despite him being at the helm itself screams of the said uncertainty.

Real Madrid highly rate Alvaro Arbeloa, and there is immense mutual respect towards the man who is rightly a club legend. Everything, however, will come down to Real Madrid winning one of the two competitions they are alive in.

As matters stand, Los Blancos are second in La Liga and four points behind Barcelona.

Their path in the UCL, meanwhile, is gruelling with Manchester City in the Round of 16 and possibly Bayern Munich, PSG and Barcelona or Arsenal in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final respectively.
