Gabigol accepted supporters’ right to protest after Santos drew 1-1 with São Paulo at Vila Belmiro on Wednesday.
According to Globo.com, the striker regretted conceding the equaliser that denied their first Campeonato Brasileiro win and extended the team’s winless run to seven matches. The game formed part of the second round.
He said protests are legitimate provided there is no violence, felt the team had improved, and called it a pity they did not leave with victory.
He declined to say whether the result was fair, instead noting both sides played well, with Santos on top before the interval and São Paulo stronger afterwards. He said that maintaining this level of effort could bring better things in the league.
The draw gave Santos their first point and left them 14th, a position that may change because four clubs below still have to play. Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s team now turn to the Campeonato Paulista, away to Noroeste on Sunday at 16:00 Brasília time at the Alfredo de Castilho stadium in Bauru.
