Gabigol heads into Santos's meeting with Flamengo on Thursday in prolific form, his scoring run rekindling Brazil recall hopes. It is the first of six matches before the November FIFA window.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the forward is highly motivated for the occasion. He has 23 goals in 43 appearances this season, 13 in the Brasileirão, leaving him third among scorers behind Viveros and Pedro.
On Friday he hit both goals in the 2-1 comeback at São Paulo at Morumbis. Post-match he said they will go game by game, wants to maximise goals and assists, and that while a call-up felt impossible in January, he is now starting to dream of it.
He was close to the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but Tite left him out. That decision followed an outstanding season at Flamengo, when the club won the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores.
Thursday's game kicks off at 19:30 Brasília time at Vila Belmiro in round 29 of the league. In April, before the Maracanã meeting, Gabigol admitted he did not feel comfortable facing his former club.
Santos explored other venues due to works at Vila Belmiro, but with no agreement kept the match at their ground. Before the break they still face Atlético-MG, Fluminense, Bahia, Palmeiras and Bragantino, and Carlo Ancelotti's next Brazil list is scheduled for 3 November.
