Carlos Vinícius scored twice for the hosts. Diario Do Peixe said individual errors cost Santos, naming Adonis Frias as the poorest performer after mistakes on both of Carlos Vinícius’s goals, while Gabigol was the standout. The piece also said a clear penalty on Gabigol was ignored by the referee and VAR.
Coach Cuca was again criticised for delaying changes despite booked and tired players, and for not withdrawing Frias after his errors.
Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão made a fine first-half save but could have done better on the opener, and captain Lucas Veríssimo erred in the build-up to Grêmio’s first. Igor Vinícius was booked early, and Escobar failed to stop the move that led to Grêmio’s third.
Willian Arão was tidy until he faded, and Gustavo Henrique tired then was sent off. Gabriel Bontempo and Miguelito caught the eye, the former assisting the second Santos goal and the latter involved in both build-ups. Lautaro Díaz and Robinho Jr made little impact, while Davizinho, Samuel Pierri and Moisés played too little for a rating.
