Gabriel Bontempo is set to miss Santos’ friendly after suffering inflammation of the pubis. According to Diario Do Peixe, the attacking midfielder stayed in the gym on Friday and worked only indoors.

He has been feeling discomfort and prefers to focus on recovery until he is 100 percent, despite the coaching staff wanting to use him. Before the Brasileirão pause he had been playing through the pain and is now seeking better condition.

Over the past two weeks Bontempo has taken part in some team sessions, mixing them with muscle-strengthening work. On other days he has remained solely in the gym.

Right-back Igor Vinicius and attacking midfielder Thaciano also completed only part of the main session. The expectation is that Igor will also sit out.

Igor is in the final stage of his return after a toe fracture healed, having taken injections before the break. Thaciano sustained a right thigh muscle injury last month and has alternated between full training and strength work.

There had been concern over midfielders João Schmidt and Gabriel Menino after right hamstring issues before the pause, as well as Willian Arão who had been strengthening because of the pubis. All three trained normally.

Under-17 and Under-20 players bolstered sessions this week and could feature in the squad. The team will not enter the usual pre-match camp, instead leaving early on Saturday by bus from Santos to São Paulo.
