Gabriel Brazão has undergone surgery on his left shoulder in Minas Gerais on Monday and is expected to miss the remainder of 2026, with a return to Santos projected for 2027.

The club said in a statement that the procedure, performed by Dr Sérgio Campolina at Instituto Orizonti in Belo Horizonte, was successful, and that the goalkeeper will start rehabilitation in the coming days.

Brazão had been troubled by pain in recent months and initially planned to operate at the end of the year. As symptoms worsened in recent matches, he and the club chose to bring the procedure forward.

In his absence, João Paulo, Diógenes, Rodrigo Falcão and under-20 goalkeeper João Pedro are competing for the role. Wearing 77, Brazão has been the undisputed starter for two years.

He previously attracted interest from Flamengo, clubs in England and Beşiktaş of Türkiye, but opted to remain with Santos, and has been closely monitored by the Brazil national set-up. He has made 137 appearances for the club and is under contract until December 2028.
