Gabriel Gudmundsson has played down injury concerns after going off with a knee knock during Sweden’s 3-1 World Cup play-off semi-final win over Ukraine.
The Leeds United left-back started on Thursday and Sweden advanced thanks to a hat-trick from Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres. Midway through the second half he took a blow to his knee, tried to continue, then was replaced by Daniel Svensson.
"It's the same as always," Gudmundsson said when asked about using an ice pack. "Take care of your body and make sure you're ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good," he told the Sweden Herald.
Leeds will take encouragement from his update. He now has four days to recover before Tuesday’s play-off final against Poland, hoping to be fit enough to feature.
"It means an incredible amount, not just to us but to everyone else as well," the defender added. "There are a lot of positives to take away from this match. We will take that feeling with us."
Gudmundsson later posted '1 more to go' on Instagram after the win.
