Gabriel Gudmundsson has eased Leeds United fears by saying he is fine after the knock that forced him off in Sweden’s 3-1 World Cup play-off semi-final win over Ukraine.

“It's calm. I've been practicing and there's nothing strange about it.” He told Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt.

“I immediately felt that it was a bang and not a twist. If it had been a twist, I probably wouldn't have been standing here now.”

The left-back was withdrawn midway through the second half and iced his knee after full-time, having initially tried to continue.

The 26-year-old has impressed head coach Graham Potter, starting against Ukraine ahead of Daniel Svensson and Samuel Dahl, who play for Borussia Dortmund and Benfica respectively. Being put up for pre-match media duties may also point to him keeping his place to face Poland tonight, with victory sending him to a first World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.

“It's really not something I think about. I play in England match after match, that's the only thing I focus on. Tomorrow is probably the most important match of my career.”

Gudmundsson is the only Leeds player left in these play-offs, with Wales beaten on penalties by Bosnia & Herzegovina last week. Joel Piroe’s Suriname debut ended in defeat to Bolivia.
