  • Man City beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium to move within three points of the Gunners
  • Goals from Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland overcame a freak Kai Havertz equaliser
  • Gabriel Jesus became subjected to chanting from one supporter to which he hit back in style

Arsenal forward and former Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus confronted one supporter at the Etihad Stadium over “judas” chanting aimed in his direction.

Pep Guardiola’s players further ignited their charge for a seventh Premier League title under the Catalan’s leadership by overcoming Arsenal in a high-octane affair that left the hosts just three points adrift of the summit.

The encounter came into life when Rayan Cherki demonstrated world-class technical ability to slalom through a sea of Arsenal defenders and score beyond David Raya, though City were pegged back almost instantly as Kai Havertz blocked a hurried Gianluigi Donnarumma clearance into an empty net.

Following a sequence where the woodwork denied Erling Haaland, Eberechi Eze, and Arsenal’s Gabriel, it was the Norwegian centre-forward who ultimately proved the difference-maker, poaching a second-half winner to punish the Gunners.

By successfully navigating late pressure to secure three points, Manchester City have now ensured they maintain a game in hand opportunity to top the league, while currently breathing down the necks of a faltering Arsenal side heading into the final stretch.

Now, footage has emerged from within the Etihad Stadium appearing to show Gabriel Jesus being subjected to chants of, “Judas what’s the score!” by one supporter seated pitch side during Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal.

Hitting back at the fan, who appeared to be chanting alone, the former Manchester City striker approached the individual before responding, “I have won 11 titles here [at the club]”.

Gabriel Jesus’ Man City career in summary

Gabriel Jesus arrived at the Etihad Stadium in January 2017 as a young talent, quickly establishing himself as a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s earliest winning machines.

Over a five-year period, the forward amassed 236 appearances and scored 95 goals, playing a pivotal role in securing four Premier League titles, three League Cups, and an FA Cup.

City fans are likely to mainly recall Jesus’ time in sky blue for the Brazilian scoring a 94th-minute winner against Southampton to secure the historic 100-point ‘Centurions’ season in 2018.

But despite his relentless work rate and versatility, the 2022 arrival of Erling Haaland signalled a shift in minutes, and in search of a primary central role and fresh challenge, Gabriel Jesus completed a £45 million transfer to Arsenal in July 2022, reuniting with former City assistant Mikel Arteta.
