Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus was happy to prove their matchwinner in victory over Sheffield United.

The Brazilian international was in the right place at the right time to blast in Ferran Torres' cut-back from close-range in the ninth minute.

"I'm getting back my rhythm and my power," he said. "It's always good to score - I had to.

"To play for a top club I have to score. Today we didn't have the space to play. I have the first chance, I scored and that's good for me and the team.

"We started so good. We dropped off a bit after the goal but we were very consistent in defence because we knew they could create chances."

The forward could have scored his second of the afternoon deep into second-half stoppage time, but his powerful effort was palmed away by Aaron Ramsdale.

"That's what we want, to win the game. At the end of the season we'll see if we fight for the title. This season is a difficult season for everyone.

"We cannot drop at home. We did not drop and won the game. We have to look at our job.

"We are first, top of the league. We have to go to the pitch and try to win the games. At home we cannot drop points."
