Gabriel Knesowitsch returned for Mirassol as a starter, 299 days after his last club game, in Friday’s 2-1 win over Grêmio.

As reported by Globo.com, his comeback had been confirmed just over 10 days earlier. He went straight into the side alongside João Victor in a composed display that drew praise from coach Rafael Guanaes.

His previous Mirassol outing was a 2-0 victory over Juventude last season, though his departure only came in December 2025. He said he was delighted to return, thanked the board, and welcomed a winning re-debut for the club he helped to fourth place and a first Libertadores berth.

On loan from Cuiabá, he made 11 appearances there this season before rejoining Mirassol, again on loan. The club will cover his wages for the next 12 months and hold an undisclosed purchase option.

Knesowitsch accepted the league position remains delicate but expressed confidence in improvement over the campaign, with Copa do Brasil and Libertadores still to play. He stressed the group’s unity and strength.

Guanaes said selection was about profile, describing Knesowitsch as very competitive and well suited to facing a physically imposing centre forward such as Carlos Vinícius. He added he would rather not have lost the defender at the end of last season.

Mirassol visit Vasco at São Januário on Saturday at 20:30 in the 20th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
