FC Porto left Gabriel Mec and Dominik Prpic out of their Champions League List A for 2026/27, the club said on Thursday, as they return to the competition after two seasons away.

The 18-year-old from Grémio, unveiled on Wednesday, was the standout omission as he adapts to Portugal and Europe. Farioli has cover there, with two attacking midfielders and two pairs of wingers on List A.

Croatian centre-back Prpic has not played a competitive minute this season, so his exclusion was expected. He is fourth choice behind Bednarek, Kiwior and Nehuén Pérez, and also competes with midfielder Pablo Rosario, used at centre-back several times last season.

List A was filed on Wednesday. Competition rules cap non homegrown players at 17 from a 25-man list, so Porto had to omit two foreign first-team players. Right-back Martim Fernandes is absent because he qualifies for List B, for club-trained players born on or after 1 January 2005, with unlimited spots that can be added during the league phase.

Farioli shows faith in the successful returns of Samu and Zaidu, both recovering from serious injuries and expected to miss part of the eight games Porto will play.

Porto host English runners-up Manchester City at Estádio do Dragão next Tuesday, starting their 28th campaign. Winners in 1986/87 and 2003/04, they enter the new league phase in which the top eight reach the last 16, play-off winners from 9th to 24th also advance, and the last 12 are eliminated.
