Gabriel Menino returned to action with 45 minutes at right-back in Santos’ friendly win over União São João at Pacaembu on Saturday, bolstering Cuca’s options at right-back.
According to Globo.com, the 25-year-old had been out since 13 May with a right hamstring injury. He was busy down the right, especially going forward, hinting at extra depth for the role.
With first-choice Igor Vinícius still in physical transition and training away from the group, Menino offers immediate cover. Mayke, who had chances early in the season before fitness problems, has been informed he is not expected to remain at the club.
Signed at the start of the year, Menino has endured two thigh injuries, making 15 appearances and scoring 2 goals. In the Campeonato Brasileiro he has been available for only eight of Santos’ 18 matches.
A midfielder by trade, he was called up by Tite for Brazil in 2020 while at Palmeiras, operating as a right-back.
Santos face Botafogo at Nilton Santos on 16 July in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The squad will continue their interseason plan until then.
