Corinthians have made an urgent and ambitious change by appointing Fernando Diniz as head coach, directly affecting Gabriel Paulista. According to Superdeporte, the move follows a worrying start to the Brasileirao.
Dorival Júnior was dismissed only 24 hours before Diniz was unveiled, after defeat to Internacional left the team close to the relegation places and extended a negative run.
Diniz has signed through to the end of 2026, with the task of restoring direction and consistency in a talented but erratic side.
Nicknamed Brazil’s Pep Guardiola, he is known for possession, clean build-up from the back and attacking emphasis. His standout achievement came with the 2023 Copa Libertadores title at Fluminense. He also had a brief spell in charge of the Brazil national team before returning to club football.
In this context, centre-back Gabriel Paulista, formerly of Valencia, Arsenal and Villarreal, has recently joined to reinforce the defence after leaving Türkiye. He will be one of the pillars on which Diniz builds his approach. His experience and leadership could be crucial, and his form has already marked him out as a standout since arriving.
