Galatasaray survive 10-man Juventus fight back to win in extra-time | OneFootball

Galatasaray survived a valiant fightback by 10-man Juventus but ultimately progressed to the round of 16 after two extra-time goals.

Juventus had a mountain to climb in Turin against a Galatasaray that had enjoyed a convincing 3-0 win in Turkey but a superb 90 minutes from the Italians took the game to extra-time.

In a thrilling encounter with plenty of goalmouth action, Juventus reduced the deficit to just two goals in the 37th minute after Khéphren Thuram was brought down by Lucas Torreira.

Captain Manuel Locatelli took the resulting penalty, coolly slotting the ball to the right with U?urcan Çak?r diving the wrong way.

It looked like Juve's momentum had been curbed early in the second half when Lloyd Kelly was sent off after picking up a second yellow card. The English defender jumped for the ball but his studs raked the back of Baris Yilmaz's leg in an incident that was accidentally but no less saw him dismissed.

Despite that, the home side kept pushing and made it 2-0 on the night and 2-3 on aggregate in the 70th minute when Pierre Kalulu's low ball was prodded into an empty net by Federico Gatti at the far post.

The 10 men made it 3-3 on aggregate in the 82nd minute. A freekick was whipped in from the left with Teun Koopmeiners rising highest and heading the ball down for Weston McKennie to head in.

That goal forced the game into extra-time where it looked like Juventus had tired from all the hard work they had put into getting this far.

Galatasaray at long last managed to make their numerical advantage pay in the final seconds of the first period of extra-time when Baris Yilmaz threaded a ball through to Victor Osimhen who made no mistake and slotted past Mattia Perin.

Then in the second period of extra-time as Juve continued to search for an equaliser with Yilmaz this time in behind the defence and making it 3-2 on the night and 5-7 to Galatasaray on aggregate.

After a terrible first leg, Juventus were going out but they had certainly rescued their pride with the home fans applauding their display.
