Foden expertly directed a Matheus Nunes cross into the net via the crossbar after just 59 seconds to claim his 63rd career goal in the top-flight, overtaking City legend Yaya Toure in the process.

The Englishman was full of confidence and almost doubled his tally, but saw his effort expertly blocked, before his powerful strike was superbly tipped over the bar by Leeds’ goalkeeper Lucas Perri.

Five minutes before the half-hour mark we got the second goal that we deserved through Josko Gvardiol, who pounced on a loose ball inside the six-yard box to poke in.

Tijjani Reijnders was next to go close, striking just over from long-range, before chances for Bernardo and Nico in a dominant first 45 minutes.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was introduced for the visitors for the second period and just four minutes after the restart, the striker pulled a goal back, finishing coolly beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma after a mix-up in the City defence.

Gvardiol was then penalised for a foul on Calvert-Lewin inside the box shortly after, but despite Donnarumma saving Lukas Nmecha’s penalty, the striker tapped in the rebound to make it 2-2.

City pushed for a winner and with the clock in the first minute of stoppage time, Foden fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to spark wild scenes of celebration inside the Etihad, with the goal taking us up to second in the league table.
