The Blues came into the tie knowing a win would edge us closer to the WSL title but, after a cagey contest against a well-drilled Liverpool side, it looked like we’d have to settle for a point.

Kerolin forced Jennifer Falk into a fine one-on-one save in the second 45, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw also seeing a header tipped over the bar late on, but the decisive moment would follow in the 91st minute.

It came from a City corner, swung in by Alex Greenwood and met by Knaak with a diving header, which Falk couldn’t keep out.

Victory sent the sell-out Joie Stadium crowd into raptures, and confirmed the Blues’ 100% record on home soil in the WSL this season.

Laura Coombs, enjoying her final home appearance for City before her retirement at the end of the season, was then brought on to help shore things up and ultimately help the Blues over the line.

Captain Greenwood paid tribute to our midfielder after the final whistle, with Coombs also receiving flowers from her team-mates on the pitch.
