Mahjong has become a global phenomenon in recent years but is believed to be around 150 years old, having originated in China in the late 19th century.

Tile-based and extremely tactical, it’s the source of endless fascination for generations of Chinese people.

So, while based in the country for the first half of our pre-season tour, we took Marmoush to visit a local club and learn all about it.

As with most sportspeople when it comes to playing new games, the Egyptian took it in his stride and proved ultra competitive by the end of the afternoon.
