Galo youngsters thrash Santos in the Brasileiro Under-17s

Atlético’s U-17 side thrashed Santos 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon (25) at Arena MRV. The match was part of the 13th round of the Brazilian U-17 Championship.

The match was dominated by Atlético from start to finish. Four minutes into the game, midfielder Vinicius, back in the team after serving a suspension, pounced on the goalkeeper’s rebound and opened the scoring for Galo.

Two minutes later, forward Riquelme received a pass from midfielder Callegario, cut past his marker, and fired home a beautiful shot to extend the lead and score his first goal at Arena MRV.

Santos managed to pull one back through forward Luiz Gusttavo, but it was Atlético’s afternoon. In the 24th minute, once again taking advantage of a rebound from the opposing goalkeeper, Vinicius made it 3-1. With that goal, the midfielder drew level with forward Cauã Soares as the youth team’s top scorer at Arena MRV.

At halftime, forward Riquelme said he had been working hard for the goal and spoke about the new role he played on the field against Santos.

“I had played as a No. 9 before, but the coach came with a different idea for today’s game, and it’s been very smooth.”

Second half

Coming back for the second half, coach Rafael Paiva made only tactical adjustments, without changing any of the players.

Just eight minutes in, forward Gabriel Veneno made a good run and delivered a great pass to midfielder Callegario, who delicately chipped the opposing goalkeeper to score the fourth goal.

After providing a brilliant assist, it was Veneno’s turn to celebrate. Vinicius was brought down in the box, and the referee awarded a penalty to Galo. Veneno sent the ball one way and the goalkeeper the other to score the fifth.

There was still time for one more. After a good move by right-back Vagner Lopes, Gomide tapped it into the net to complete the scoring for the Crias.

In an interview with GaloTV H2Bet, Gomide spoke about the difference Arena MRV makes in Galo’s matches.

“Playing here is different. This is our home, we feel at home, the game flows better, and that’s why we remain unbeaten when we play here.”

Standings

With the win over Santos, Galo drew level on points with the São Paulo side in the competition, but remains behind on number of wins. The Crias moved up one spot in the table and got even closer to the qualification zone. Their record so far is four wins, five draws, and four losses.
