Galvão Bueno has reiterated his lifelong allegiance to Flamengo, recalling boyhood trips to the Maracanã and even a minor scare in 2019.
"In the 1950s, after Flamengo's three-peat I left the Maracanã wrapped in a flag. I would leave Urca, take two buses to the Maracanã and watch Flamengo," he told Charla Podcast.
"So I am Flamengo, full stop. In 2019 I did not commentate, but I went to Peru and had a little heart scare from Thursday into Friday, and the match was on Saturday."
He has long said he always backed the Rubro-Negro, though many once assumed he was Corinthians after linking his voice to the club’s triumphs.
"I have it in my head that Leonardo Jardim’s way of playing, and he is a great coach, does not match Flamengo’s DNA. They tried to sit deeper, with long balls up front."
Set to call the 2026 World Cup for SBT, the 76-year-old said he turned down CazéTV out of respect for Globo. "CazéTV made me an offer and I did not think it was right, because Globo and Cazé would do the same game. I still had a contract with Globo, and it would not have been free-to-air, but it would be competition."
Bueno remains one of Brazilian broadcasting’s defining voices, his delivery shaping later narrators, even down to his pronounced 'r'.
