Garro on Corinthians’ form: “I’m not at my best”

Corinthians was defeated 3-0 by Cruzeiro in a match marked by individual mistakes and performances below the fans' expectations. One of the players who had a negative performance was Garro, who spoke in the mixed zone at Mineirão about the team's performance and the expectations for the Copa do Brasil clash.

"The first feeling is this. I think we played a game far below what we have shown. I am the first to be self-critical of Garro. I am sad about the game's situation, the instability we have in the Brasileirão. The instability I also have in my performance. But we have to take this experience, this situation, so it doesn't happen again and to come strong in the direct clash (for the Copa do Brasil). It's a knockout game, it's different. In this competition, we have been doing well, and I think we can't forget that. But yes, learn from the mistake,” started the team's number 8.

"Everything that failed today has no excuse. I think it's a bad moment. We have to keep our mouths shut, work, and take the hits because I think it's a difficult moment for us, for the group. But the group has been in much worse situations, and I think it's a moment to show the heart that the group has.", he added.

After a brilliant 2024, Garro struggled with injuries and low performance this season, along with a reduced sequence of goal contributions. He has only two goals this season.

"The truth is, it's hard to say this. When Garro plays well, I don't think I'm the best. And when there's this kind of game, I don't think I'm the worst. I know my performance is below what I can deliver. But it's football. I know I'm below my performance, but still, within the game, there's the Copa do Brasil. It's important how it ends.", commented Garro.

Corinthians' next commitment is only on Sunday (30), for the 36th round of the Brasileirão. The Neo Química Arena will host Botafogo, starting at 4 PM (Brasília time), with Timão looking to get back on the winning track.

Shame about the result

"When we have a game like this, we feel ashamed. But for the jersey we represent and the situation. I think we are the first to be held accountable. As I said, the group has a lot of self-criticism. And we already know that the game was below what we are used to. So it's about having self-criticism, humility, and working."

Difference between home and away games

"Yes, it's an attitude we take. At home, we know we have the fortress of the fans. We play away with a different mindset. I think the problem has been continuous throughout the Brasileirão. That's why I'm also sad. The group is aware of the situation. The group is heated from today's game. So, as I said, it's about having self-criticism and courage for this situation. We have been in much worse moments last year. And we know how to make a comeback."
