Chelsea have just been beaten 3-1 by Leeds at Elland Road, after a really disappointing performance from the Blues which was soft, sloppy and blunt.

There were a lot of things which went wrong, but Gary Neville cut to the core of it on his commentary for TV. He wasn’t saying anything that we haven’t heard before, but it was maybe some home truths which had been forgotten with our recent run of good form.

Chelsea good – but not good enough for title says Neville

“Chelsea will be in the top four or five, no problem,” the pundit said in his role as commentator for Sky Sports.

“But when you talk about Chelsea winning the league, they are short in goal, short at centre back and short up top. Their centre forwards, centre backs and goalkeepers aren’t good enough to be title winners. Chelsea have lost the battle here and the football.”

He’s spot on, and it really points out what was frustrating about tonight’s game. We won the battle against Arsenal on Sunday, and they’re as big and tough as they come. How do we then fold so easily just days later?

The centre backs were poor tonight, the goalkeeper looked shaky behind them after a long run of good form, and the attack was super blunt.

“I don’t think they respected Elland Road or the fixture” was Neville’s closing statement. That’s strong stuff, and hard to disagree with.

In other news…

Pedro Neto scored once again early in the second half to give his team a chance in this game.

Chelsea conceded the opening goal in this game to a header from a corner – which raised the question of why Enzo Maresca had left out key central defender Wesley Fofana.
