Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has claimed that he’s always had love for one Chelsea player who was often ‘erratic and made mistakes’ a lot.

Neville has often been very critical of Chelsea under the new ownership, but recently, like pretty much every other pundit out there, he has been forced to give credit where it is due, as much as it probably pains him to do so.

Chelsea are going strong right now, getting some great results and putting in some decent performances. Everyone is now sitting back and taking notice of Enzo Maresca’s Blues and realising that they now mean business once again.

Nicolas Jackson leads the line, and he is banging in some goals this season too, perhaps finally shutting up his critics. He came to Chelsea and took some time to settle in and perhaps felt the pressure of leading the line at such a big club. But he is now really showing top consistency and quality.

Neville has always loved Jackson

Jackson scored again on Sunday

Many have not been Jackson’s biggest fan, but Neville claims he always was, whilst also offering some critique to his game.

Speaking to Sky Sports in quotes picked up via X today, Neville said:

“I had a lot of love for Nicolas Jackson last year even though he was erratic and made mistakes. We’re now seeing a real handful up there and someone you wouldn’t want to play against as a centre half.”

I think he is right there as well, not many defenders would want to face Jackson right now. He’s really improved that side of his game and is starting to bully defenders now as well, putting himself about. I always worried that he was more of a wide striker than a traditional 9, but he is improving that side of his game now as well.
