Gary Neville was as confused as the rest of us after Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, as he made clear afterwards.

Gary Neville was on Sky Sports commentary duties for the Sunday game between Chelsea and Arsenal, and his take on what he saw from the Blues was interesting.

“I’ve never commentated on a team that makes me feel so many different emotions during a single game,” Neville said on his podcast at full time.

“I’ve got many thoughts about Chelsea and I still can’t quite work them out. You can watch them and think they’re naive, they’re too nice, they’re ill-disciplined or that they’re electric, they’re a great possession team and they’re so talented.”

Neville baffled by inconsistent Chelsea once again

It was a classic confusing Chelsea game. They somehow sort of outplayed Arsenal at the Emirates… yet never looked like winning. They did so much of the hard stuff right, yet continued to blow the absolute basics. We can see why Neville can’t work us out – we can’t either.

He did have some solutions for how things could be improved, however:

“You can think so many different things. I flip between thinking they’re miles away and thinking if they can get a goalkeeper, an experienced centre-back and an experienced centre-forward, they could be in business.”

It’s the same thing every pundit has been saying for a couple of years.

In other news…

Also speaking after the game was Liam Rosenior, who has called for a rule change regarding corners.

Reece James’ father has been given the task of working with incoming wonderkid Dastan Satpaev.
