15-year-old prodigy JJ Gabriel is pushing to leave Man Utd

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has used Arsenal and Max Dowman as an example to how the JJ Gabriel situation should be handled.

Standard Sport understands Man United have been taken aback by Gabriel’ desire to move on, with the 15-year-old reportedly asking to have his registration at Old Trafford cancelled with immediate effect so he can become a free agent.

This surprise turn of events occurred just days before Gabriel was due to make senior competitive debut for Man Utd in the Carabao Cup clash with Brighton, thus becoming the club’s youngest ever player.

Though United still have hope of rectifying the situation, Neville is not happy with how it is being played out in public, using Arsenal as an example after Dowman scored in the Premier League against Everton last season.

On the latest episode of the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast Neville said: “I just don’t see the logic from any representatives of a 15-year-old boy who think it’s a good idea to put his name in lights right now,

“Max Dowman, if you remember last year when he came on, you know, Sky probably asked for an interview at the end of the game.

“Arsenal said no. “They got him straight back into the changing room. He’s back at school on the Monday morning.”

Roy Keane, meanwhile, took aim at Gabriel's representatives, saying Man United are not in a position to than cater to “some 15-year-old spitting his dummy out.”

“Are you telling me he can’t wait? If you are 15 years of age and you’re talking about playing for Man United’s first team, just wait. Can you wait another six weeks if United get through the cup?

“Carrick’s under pressure. Obviously, [Sir Alex] Ferguson would throw young lads into the first team. But United, they need wins [right now].

“I don’t think United are in a position where they go, ‘We can write off a cup game tonight and play a couple of young lads. We need to get momentum into the season. If some 15-year-old is spitting his dummy out, we’ll deal with that.’”
