Gary O'Neil, 42, could be considered by Strasbourg, another BlueCo club, as he looks for his next role after leaving Wolverhampton on 15 December 2024. His short Premier League stints have generally left a positive impression.

He was in Manchester on Sunday for BBC's Match of the Day, discussing the Premier League. He was not asked about any BlueCo meetings, nor about replacing Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg, and Chelsea drew 1-1 at Manchester City that day. In August he said he was still early in his journey and that time would help him close gaps, The Guardian reported.

O'Neil’s management to date covers two Premier League clubs, Bournemouth and Wolves. He kept Bournemouth up in 2022-2023, finishing 15th after promotion, then was dismissed after five straight defeats to end the campaign. He left Wolves a year and a half after arriving.

He began coaching in Liverpool’s academy and accepts he still has plenty to prove after only two full Premier League seasons.

Over the past year without a club obligation, he has stayed active. He visited St George’s Park to address aspiring coaches and spent time with rugby league side Wigan Warriors to observe their manager, Matt Peet. These experiences have informed his thinking about building culture in a next job.
