Gary Rowett was asked about links to Leicester City’s managerial vacancy amid the search for Marti Cifuentes’ successor.
The Spaniard was dismissed after last weekend’s home defeat to Oxford, which left City 14th and six points off the play-offs. Rowett has just left Oxford after keeping them in the Championship last season, and bookmakers list him among the leading candidates.
“Well, look, it's a club I played for, it's a fantastic football club,” he said, speaking on Sky Sports News.
“Obviously, they're in a little bit of trouble at the moment with potentially a points deduction rumoured to be on the horizon, which would put them in need of a strong end to the season. So, no, look, I think it's like anything, isn't it? Sometimes there's those links, sometimes there's something in it, sometimes there's not, but I'm quite enjoying this seat, at least for the evening.”
Rowett spent two seasons with Leicester from 2000 to 2002, making 57 appearances.
The 51-year-old also referred to a previous appearance when he was linked with Cardiff City, a job later taken by former City coach Brian Barry-Murphy. “At least, it's better than 50 to 1 at Cardiff, isn't it? The last time I was on.”
