Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has delivered an honest verdict on his team’s free-flowing football amid an impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign. During the last international break of 2024, the veteran coach, who led La Dea to a memorable UEFA Europa League triumph last season, addressed the media.
“We don’t have too many thoughts rattling around our minds. We do play a bit like kids, with a sense of freedom,” the Atalanta boss said, as reported by Sky Sport. “I don’t know what the future holds, but we are very satisfied with what we are doing and try to keep going as long as possible.
“Football has certain rules, you learn to win, but above all how to lose, how to respect your opponents. Sport, and in particular football, teaches you lessons that you carry for the rest of your life, in all areas of that life.“
It’s been a superb season for Atalanta thus far. In addition to going unbeaten in all four Champions League outings, they sit only a point behind table-topping Napoli in Serie A after stringing together six consecutive league victories.
Atalanta overturned a halftime deficit against Udinese last weekend to maintain their purple patch in Serie A, positioning themselves as genuine title contenders ahead of November’s international break. In addition to breathing down Napoli’s necks, they’re the division’s most prolific side with 31 goals.
Atalanta will resume their incredible title charge on November 23 with an away match against newly promoted Parma.
