Gian Piero Gasperini, in a press conference, commented on the 2-0 victory against Bologna thanks to goals from Malen and El Ayanoui.
The Grugliasco coach commented on the first half and the individual performances, from Malen to Pisilli: “The first half was very good, even defensively. Then, someone like Malen improved the quality of the game, as did Soulé’s presence. Pisilli demonstrated his versatility. In the second half, we felt the fatigue, perhaps because it was the first time we’d played in the afternoon.”
The Giallorossi coach stated he never had any doubts about Malen: “It’s hard to expect his stats. I knew he was an ideal player, and there was no doubt about his role either. I already knew him and had seen him in the friendly in August; it’s better to see the players in person. I was convinced he was right for us.”
The Grugliasco coach praised El Aynaoui, who scored the 2-0 goal: “He played a great game. He did well in November, then went to the Africa Cup of Nations and reached the final, paying the price physically and emotionally. It took a bit of time, but I’ve always said he’s a healthy guy. He’s always worked calmly and played a great game.”
Gian Piero Gasperini spoke about the injuries suffered this season: “We hope to get Koné back. When you get to the end of the season, bookings pile up, and that’s normal. We’ve had some long absences of key players. Wesley, Soulé, Dybala, and Koné are strong players. They weren’t just missing for one match; Dybala hadn’t played since January 25th, Soulé was out for 40 days, and we haven’t seen others since. It’s not normal. Wesley was also unlucky with his sending off in Como and wasn’t available against Lecce, then he was half-injured in Brazil.”
The Giallorossi coach praised the players’ attitude throughout the season: “The team never gave up and always played excellent matches, even against Atalanta and Juve. We paid the price for that double trip to Genoa and Como; we weren’t very lucky. Wesley’s injury was minor. The problem was the others who weren’t as fit as they were, like Ferguson, Angeliño, Soulé, and Dybala.”
Gasperini on the transfer market ahead of the summer: “We’ll talk about it next season. The transfer market isn’t easy, but I have ideas on how to raise Roma’s level and strength. If I have technical responsibilities, it’s only right that I be satisfied.”
