Gian Piero Gasperini was the recipient of the Enzo Bearzot award at the Coni HQ in Rome and was quizzed about potentially taking over the Giallorossi in the summer by Rai (via Corriere dello Sport).
“Who wouldn’t like that? It’s a great city with an exceptional fan base. It’d be something to be proud of, but it’s tough to predict what will happen. It’s like the national team: everybody likes it. They have Claudio Ranieri, who is a fantastic coach.”
Gasperini dished on Thiago Motta getting the boot.
“I’m very fond of him. He’s going through rough moments. That’s the role of the coach, who’s often exalted too much after positive results and then has to go through the media pile on. It’s a part of the system we can improve upon.” “Managers live in the present, so I’m focused on the last nine games. It’s rare to spend so much time in the same team. It has been an extraordinary piece of my life where all the components came together. But everything has a beginning and an end. There’ll be time for statues, as we have to chase after more objectives.”
Gasperini commented on the title race.
“Things got more complicated for us after the Inter game, but we have to let the fans to keep dreaming. We have to shoot for the impossible to reach it. Winning the Europa League was wonderful, but so was the journey to get there. The real goal is to push through every limit. I’ve always aimed for the best, and it looked like it was never going to happen for me.”
