Gennaro Gattuso has agreed to replace Maurizio Sarri at Lazio.
Sportitalia first reported the deal on 23 May, and Fabrizio Romano has since said Gattuso has been chosen to succeed Sarri.
The change had become inevitable after a season of tension at the Stadio Olimpico, with Sarri frustrated by unclear transfer plans and ongoing ultras protests.
Sarri still has a contract, but it will be ended by mutual consent this week so he can begin a new role with Atalanta.
There were other alternatives, such as Atalanta boss Raffaele Palladino, but it would seem that Gattuso has won that race.
It would be his first job since failing to take Italy to the 2026 World Cup, after a play-off defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Lazio missed out on Europe for the second season in a row, the first time that has happened under Claudio Lotito.
