FC Barcelona were keen to complete some transfer operations before the end of the current financial year on 30th June, but unfortunately for the Blaugrana club, none of their players from the last season they had marked for a sale was able complete a move within this timeframe.
Still, they were able to get some much needed income from two different sources. Firstly, the received a part of the payment, amounting to €14 million, they were due to receive for the sale of VIP seats at the new Spotify Camp Nou.
Secondly, AS Monaco exercised the right to permanently purchase the forward Ansu Fati today, on Tuesday. The Catalans receive €11 million from this operation.
While this income would be very welcome for Barcelona, this must have been an emotional time for the Spanish forward, as his time at the Blaugrana club to an end. He joined the youth academy at the age of 10 and leaves at the age of 23, thus spending several memorable years at the azulgrana side, making some valuable friends during the process.
One player with whom he shared a particularly strong bond was the midfielder Gavi, who like himself, came through the youth ranks to make his place in the first team.
As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the Spanish midfielder did not forget his friend on such an eventful day, and took to social media to bid him farewell as Fati embarks on a new stage in his career. Gavi published a picture of him hugging Fati, accompanied with the following caption:
“Always one of my own. I’ll miss you so much, brother. Love you.”
The two players will now see their paths diverging, as Gavi would be keen to continue at Barcelona while Ansu Fati would be looking to prove himself with Monaco. Hopefully, they would remain friends off the pitch and continue to fondly remember the time they spent together at the Blaugrana club.
