Gavi starts on Spain’s left against Cape Verde in Atlanta on Monday at 18:00, with Lamine Yamal on the bench for their opener.

According to L'Équipe, Luis de la Fuente has doubled down on his midfield faith by selecting an extra midfielder. He said on Sunday that his side had the best midfield in the world. With Nico Williams still building up after a late season injury with Bilbao, he has turned to that option.

The Barcelona midfielder had not started a competitive game for Spain since November 2023, when he ruptured his right ACL against Georgia in Euro qualifying. He did start in the 1-1 draw with Iraq in preparation, in a second string side.

Elsewhere there are no surprises, with a midfield of Rodri, Fabian Ruiz and Pedri. Ferran Torres starts on the right.
