Gavi thanks Barcelona after completing his dream of winning the World Cup | OneFootball

Spain won their second World Cup title last night, as they defeated Argentina in the final. As was the case in the Iberian side’s first World Cup triumph in 2010, FC Barcelona once again provided the core of the Spanish team, and it was also a Blaugrana player who made the difference by scoring the decisive goal last night, i.e., Ferran Torres.

Torres was only one of the eight Barcelona players whom Luis de la Fuente had called up for this World Cup campaign. While the call-ups for players like Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Eric Garcia, and Joan Garcia were easy to understand, one player whose inclusion in the squad raised some eyebrows was the midfielder Gavi.

This was particularly the case as the young midfielder had been facing physical problems for the last few years, and had not played at his best level for Barcelona because of these problems. Still, de la Fuente defended his decision to call up the Blaugrana player, and also gave him minutes on the pitch in games against Cape Verde and Austria.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the midfielder took to social media to share an emotional message after this World Cup triumph, in which he particularly thanked FC Barcelona for helping him reach such a high point in his career. The Spaniard shared two photos, one showcasing his very first steps in football, and the other showing him lifting the World Cup trophy.
