Gaviões da Fiel on Monday condemned the hostility shown towards a child after Corinthians’ 1-0 home defeat to Santos at Neo Química Arena. The incident followed Neymar Júnior handing the boy his shirt at full time.

According to Meu Timao, the eight-year-old was in the West Stand with his parents and held a sign asking for the forward’s shirt. The fixture formed part of the 25th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

The supporters’ group said it opposes any form of intimidation, embarrassment or violence, particularly when children are involved. It added that guidance in stadiums is the responsibility of parents and guardians, while stressing that nothing justifies aggression or intimidation. The child will be welcomed at the Gaviões headquarters.

Nearby fans then harassed the boy, who left the ground under escort alongside his parents. The family were assisted by police and exited via an emergency exit.

Corinthians expressed regret at the aggressiveness suffered by the child. Neymar also posted on social media in support of the family.
