There were a mixed bag of performances from the AC Milan players on what was a mixed night in general as they lost 1-0 against Bayer Leverkusen.

Victor Boniface got the only goal early in the second half after the home side had dominated the first 45 minutes, yet Milan missed some big chances and can feel unlucky not to have been awarded at least one penalty.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) have their ratings from the game starting with the team’s overall performance which was given a 6 out of 10, and Paulo Fonseca’s management of the game which was awarded a 5.5.

The best player on the pitch in the eyes of the paper for the Rossoneri was Youssouf Fofana who was given a 7 after doing a brilliant job in midfield, while the player who struggled the most was right-back Emerson Royal and he was awarded a 5.

In terms of the other positives, Mike Maignan was excellent again and kept out a number of shots in the first half (7), while Alvaro Morata (6.5) provided some necessary energy and quality off the bench. Matteo Gabbia, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham all got a passing grade of 6.

Six players got a 5.5 and in many ways that tells the story of the night in terms of being almost there but not quite good enough, and they were Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tijjani Reijnders, Rafael Leao and Samuel Chukwueze.
