The mid-season period is always difficult for clubs and players, and the 2024/25 run-in is no different. It could see AC Milan play almost 30 times in four months.
Over the next few months, the Milan squad will be put to the test by the footballing calendar, and Paulo Fonseca must rotate his squad properly to ensure that there are no casualties to the calendar. At one point, he was criticised for his rotations, or lack thereof, and this trend cannot continue.
Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News) reports that in the next four months, Milan could play up to 29 times. Of course, this will depend on the progression in the Champions League and the Supercoppa Italiana, and with the Rossoneri hoping to finish within the top eight, it should be expected that more games in Europe are on the way.
Thankfully, the Diavolo are not alone in their struggles. Inter, Juventus, Atalanta and Bologna will also play a similar amount of games – less so Bologna albeit marginally.
The big problem is that Napoli could play 10 games fewer than the teams surrounding them, a huge benefit for Antonio Conte and perhaps, a benefit that will bring points just by itself. It will, of course, not be an excuse for any more shortcomings for Milan, though.
