It’s already been a year since Lutsharel Geertruida left Feyenoord. The club’s beloved academy graduate played for RB Leipzig last season, but hasn’t found the form he did in Rotterdam. In a rare interview with VoetbalPrimeur, the 25-year-old discussed a possible return to Feyenoord.

“One hundred per cent,” Geertruida said proudly when asked if he ever wants to return to Feyenoord. “I swear. I have to go back anyway.” He still speaks to Feyenoord player Quinten Timber in particular: “I actually talk to him quite often.”

In Leipzig, everything has been different for ‘Luts’: “In Rotterdam, it’s busy everywhere, but in Leipzig, it’s super quiet. I miss my mother, my father, my child, and also my friends. I really struggled with that. It’s just strange, that feeling of no longer being in Rotterdam.”

The right-footed defender hopes to go to the 2026 World Cup, but the prospect of playing time at his club is slim. Geertruida might even be allowed to leave Leipzig. Yet, he’s confident: “I have to go to the World Cup. I have no other option, that’s the way it is.”
