Genoa director Marco Ottolini confirms Josep Martinez will join Inter, but Albert Gudmundsson ‘could remain with us’ and Djed Spence returns to Tottenham.
The deal is done for the goalkeeper to complete his switch to San Siro for €15m including bonuses, as a medical is expected tomorrow.
Martinez is set to arrive in Milan this evening to be ready for the tests tomorrow morning.
“Our secretaries are finalising the paperwork,” confirmed Ottolini in a press conference to open the sale of Genoa season tickets.
Inter had also been heavily linked with Gudmundsson, but seem to have been scared off by the price-tag for the Iceland international.
They are not the only ones, as Fiorentina, Lazio and Premier League sides also backed off after initial enthusiasm for the 27-year-old.
“There have been some calls to ask about him, but nothing more than that at this moment. Albert will start with us in pre-season training on Monday. He could remain with us. There’s nothing decided.”
Ottolini confirmed a similar situation for Italy international striker Mateo Retegui, with only “the request for information, but nothing more.”
Genoa brought in full-back Spence on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January, but negotiations to make the move permanent would appear to have broken down.
“There are still another 55 days left in the transfer session, so anything could happen. But right now the conditions to bring Spence to us are not there.”
