Genoa eye ex-Roma pair Ferguson and El Shaarawy for De Rossi | OneFootball

Genoa are looking to the transfer market with two former Roma players in their sights, as Daniele De Rossi eyes reinforcements for his side.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, relaying Tuttosport, the Genoa coach, who spent much of his career at Roma, is considering moves for Evan Ferguson and Stephan El Shaarawy, the latter a former team-mate of his in the capital.

Ferguson is wanted to bolster the attack: the Republic of Ireland striker has returned to Brighton, where he is contracted until 2029, after a forgettable loan spell at Roma in which he was limited and kept out for long spells by physical problems.

El Shaarawy return would reunite Genoa roots with De Rossi

The other name is more sentimental.

El Shaarawy has been a free agent since 30 June, when his contract with Roma expired, and a move to Genoa would represent a homecoming for the winger, who came through the club’s youth academy and made his Serie A debut there.

Described as a mid-summer idea, it is not as far-fetched as it might sound: De Rossi is a firm admirer, and the player is open to a return to his roots, though his wages remain the principal obstacle for a club unable to match his previous salary.

Both would be experienced additions for a Genoa side taking shape under De Rossi. For now, the interest is at the idea stage, but with the window entering its final weeks, the Grifone are weighing familiar faces to strengthen their ranks.
