Spence had joined the Grifone in the January transfer window on loan with a €10m option to buy.

A former Leeds United loanee, Spence made 16 appearances in Serie A in 2023-24, convincing Genoa and their coach Alberto Gilardino to keep him beyond June.

According to Fabrizio Romano, talks between the two parties are ongoing as both Genoa and Tottenham want to reach an agreement before the end of the month.

This suggests Genoa may not use their clause to sign Spence permanently but would rather discuss different terms.

Genoa director Marco Ottolini has confirmed that the club want to keep both Spence and Vitinha in 2024-25.

“We are talking with the clubs and with the players and the idea is to keep them here. Spence has quality worthy of the Champions League and unexpressed potential. Vitinha needs one season to relaunch himself and Genoa is the right place to do so.”

The Portuguese forward is on loan at Marassi from Olympique Marseille.

Ottolini confirmed to Il Secolo XIX that Genoa are also interested in Juventus‘ midfielder Fabio Miretti.
