The Frenchman was assured of his place as club manager despite the Italian side currently dead last in the table. Vieira’s men are one of four sides in the Italian top-flight this season that have yet to earn a victory.
The club president and owner, Dan Sucu, was very clear on Tuesday about the club’s coach at their general meeting. “Here we do not have a plan B, C or D. I have complete confidence in Vieira,” said Sucu.
Igor Tudor was the first Serie A boss this season to get sacked, with Juventus letting him go earlier this week. There was speculation the former RC Strasbourg manager might be the next victim.
With only three points after eight league fixtures, it is the worst start to a Serie A season for Genoa in the three-point victory era. Vieira’s men have netted a mere four goals in that span but are just two points below Verona for a spot outside the relegation zone.
The former World Cup champion with Les Bleus took charge of this team in November 2024, guiding them to a 13th-place finish in the league last season.
