Genoa are edging closer to a dry loan agreement for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson, who struggled at Roma last season.

The centre-forward turns 22 in October and already has 26 senior caps for the Republic of Ireland, where he scored eight goals.

He spent last term at the Stadio Olimpico, where Roma had picked him up on a loan for €3m with option to buy for a further €40m.

However, that was never going to be activated because he barely managed to play, still scoring five goals with two assists in 22 competitive appearances.

Ferguson suffered from repeated injury problems, culminating in a season-ending ankle issue in January 2026.

The experience did not put him off Serie A football and he is on the verge of a return, as Sky Sport Italia, Fabrizio Romano and more all confirm negotiations are at an advanced stage.

This time it would be a dry loan, so with no option to make it permanent, but the promise to give him more regular playing time at Marassi.
