George Honeyman seems to be getting better and better the more that he features and after performing solidly for Hull last season, there is now interest in his services.

According to News at Den, Millwall are keeping an eye on the player and could make a bid to try and sign him this summer. That would improve their midfield and add another strong option to their squad as they look to try and launch a promotion bid.

He’s been with the Tigers for three campaigns now and has seen them both relegated from the Championship and promoted from League One along the way.

Now, it could be time for a fresh challenge for the 27-year-old and the Lions look ready to provide it. But it is it a good deal and would he get action at The Den?

Is it a good potential move?

Signing Honeyman would be a very good move by the Lions when you consider where he is at in his career and his level of experience now.

The midfielder has played in the Premier League and has nearly 120 Championship appearances to his name during his career. That means the 27-year-old has plenty of knowhow of the second tier and could certainly add a bit more depth and a bit more strength to Millwall’s midfield if he did join.

Last season saw his best Championship output to date too – five goals and four assists led to the best goal contribution tally he has ever managed in the second tier. Honeyman then seems to be getting better and better and it could end up being a shrewd bit of business by Gary Rowett.

What year did Neil Harris first sign for Millwall?

1996 1997 1998 1999

Would he start?

Millwall do have a number of good, young options in their midfield right now, so whether he would walk straight into the side and get a starting berth is unclear right now.

Billy Mitchell has shone for the Lions recently and looking to more experienced faces, George Saville has done a good job in the centre of the field too. Honeyman though is another option who is right in the peak of his career and he could certainly end up being a first-team regular.

You’d expect that if he did switch from Hull to the Lions, it would be with at least some promise of regular gametime too considering his current status with the Tigers.

What does he offer?

Honeyman is becoming a bit of an all-round midfielder and has really grown in his level of performance and abilities in the Championship since his days with Sunderland.

Going forward, he has displayed excellent vision to pick out his teammates and he has the ability to string together some exceptional passes too. He can sit back, watch the play unfold in front of him and then spray balls out to get his team going on the offensive.

Even defensively he offers plenty too. His tackling is superb now and he certainly isn’t afraid to track back and get stuck in if needed. That’s despite sometimes even being deployed further forward too.

It shows that he has plenty in his locker in terms of his offensive output but also in terms of breaking up opposition play himself and starting his own teams on attacks. Honeyman then certainly offers quite a lot as a player.
