England didn’t just bounce back from their defeat to France, they came out swinging.

A 4-0 demolition of the Netherlands wasn’t just a response, it was a reminder of what this team is capable of when they click.

The win puts them right back in the mix in Group D and it felt like a return to the kind of fearless, front-foot football that won them Euro 2022.

From the first whistle, Engand looked sharper, more aggressive, and more like themselves. They moved the ball with intent, pressed high up the pitch and didn’t let the Dutch settle.

Hannah Hampton, starting in goal, made an instant impact with her distribution, turning defence into attack with pinpoint passes that kept the tempo high.

Lauren James scored a stunning brace, while Ella Toone and Georgia Stanway also got on the scoresheet.

What did Georgia Stanway say after England’s Euro 2025 victory against the Netherlands?

Georgia Stanway had made headlines in the build-up to the Euro 2025 clash between England and the Netherlands. After the France loss, she admitted she was tired of talking.

“I didn’t want to do the press conference. I’m fed up of talking now,” she said. “We’ve got to go back to what we’re good at. Tough tackles, purposeful passes, physical intensity.”

She added: “I think we need to demand more from each other. We need to communicate in those moments, and communication isn’t just about speaking but it’s about action.”

That message was clearly taken to heart. England played with passion and edge, exactly the response Stanway had called for.

After the win against the Netherlands she gave a much more upbeat interview.

She said: “This was about showing who we are, we wanted to go back to proper England.

“We fought from the very first minute until the very last and LJ (Lauren James) set the tone. We all just followed.

Once again, James showed why she’s one of the most exciting players in the tournament. Both of her goals were taken with calm precision, and she was a constant threat going forward.

Her link-up play was sharp, her movement intelligent, and she made everything look effortless.

Stanway said after the game: “She’s class, she brings something different to what we’ve got. You give LJ the ball, you know she is going to run through everybody and try and get her shot off.

“If LJ is confident then that is what we want because we want her to enjoy herself, to play with freedom. Everybody else has got to do their job in order for LJ to do hers.”

England also looked far more secure at the back, with Leah Williamson and Jess Carter stepping up and keeping things tight.

Hampton impressed in goal as not only did she bring composure, but her distribution gave England something extra, turning defence into attack with well-placed long balls that caught the Dutch off guard more than once.

Sarina Wiegman praises mentality of England squad

Head coach Sarina Wiegman was full of praise after the game.

“We came together, we played as one and we delivered. That was proper England,” she said.

Wiegman also emphasised the importance of not allowing the France defeat to define them. Under her tenure, England have never lost two games in a row, and that streak continues.

What’s next for England?

The result leaves England second in Group D ahead of their final group game against Wales. A win there will guarantee a place in the quarter-finals and keep the dream of back-to-back European titles alive.

According to the UK’s top betting sites, England are heavy favourites to beat Wales on Sunday. Most betting sites have them at just 1/25 to win.

Wales are big underdogs, priced as high as 45/1. It’s a huge gap, but Wales will be out to cause an upset nevertheless.

If England plays with the same focus on Sunday, they could get the job done and secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
